The need for childcare places in Murnau has increased.

This has consequences for funding applications related to the planned children's home on Längenfeldweg.

Murnau

- It is an "unfortunately a bit annoying topic", formulated Murnau's chamberlain Josef Brückner in the Murnau main administration committee.

It was about the change in the financing situation for the new construction of the St. Nikolaus day-care center.

More crèche places than originally thought mean a not insignificant change in the planning for 2019, which in turn has an impact on the applications for funding that have been submitted for a long time.

In 2019, the administration submitted applications for funding programs to finance the new building early on, which was actually intended to accommodate 100 kindergartens, 50 after-school care centers and a dozen crèches.

At that time, "we had the opportunity for three funding pots," said Brückner.

These were municipal building construction funding under Article 10 of the Bavarian Financial Equalization Act, funding under the 4th special investment program for childcare financing 2017 to 2020 and funding under the 5th special investment program to create childcare places for primary school children.

The estimated total volume of possible grants from the three pots: almost 3.9 million euros.

Lots of families moved in

Due to the increased need for childcare places, the administration cites a "high number of families moving in" and "increased births" as the cause, but currently 24 daycare places must be assumed.

This in turn means a change in planning – and an “essential” one, the treasurer informed.

However, this contradicts the information on which the applications and the grants that have since been approved or promised by the government of Upper Bavaria are based.

So just stick to the old plan?

That too would not be unproblematic.

Deadlines apply to the two special investment programs.

"According to this, the project would have to be completed by June 30th, 2023, with the structural completion and handover of the building to the user being considered the completion," says the administration.

Of course, the market town of Murnau could now stick to the original planning, have an accounting based on the construction status by this date and receive funding for it.

But probably not much would come of it.

According to the current state of affairs, the start of construction is likely to be in the spring of 2023.

By the end of June 2023, you might be able to finish the shell, said Brückner.

Also, the original planning does not correspond to the need for care, and covering this is a mandatory task of the market community.

The administration therefore now proposed withdrawing the grant applications and submitting a new application for municipal building construction funding.

According to the administration, this is “the preferable solution from a financial point of view” among the existing options.

The Murnau Treasurer said that the special funding program to expand all-day care, which is to be launched this year, could also be considered – but that is “not ready for a decision”.

City council has final say

A "totally stupid situation", found Veronika Jones (Greens), spokesperson for childcare.

But you have to stick to the increase in crèche places.

"Building a slimmed-down house makes no sense." However, in the future, one would have to think about aligning the fees with the income of the parents.

In the end, the committee approved the changed financing situation in the area of grants for the new daycare center.

The municipal council has the last word.
