The Russian Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into five criminal cases of desecration of monuments to Soviet soldiers in Estonia, Bulgaria and Lithuania.

Russia Today website stated that the investigation committee opened cases against the background of suspected crimes such as the destruction or damage of military memorials commemorating those who died defending the homeland.

Recently, a memorial to the liberated Soviet soldiers was desecrated in the city of Dobrich in northeastern Bulgaria, where a group of young people painted the monument in red and then wrote obscene inscriptions on it, while vandals in Rahu Park in Tapa, Estonia, desecrated a monument to a Soviet military cemetery.
