NIS 3 billion: Tender for light rail tender between Haifa and Nazareth | Israel today

Announcement of the winning bid - during 2023 • The purpose of the project: to create a fast and accessible transportation continuum in the Haifa metropolitan area and the center of the country


The Ministry of Transportation, through the Trans-Israel Company, published the concession tender for the financing, planning, construction and operation of the "scenic" light rail between Haifa and Nazareth.

The tender, amounting to NIS 3 billion, includes the construction of a double track along 41 km, 20 stations, procurement of carriages, electricity infrastructure, signaling and control, construction of a depot and control center, procurement of a fleet of carriages and operation and maintenance of the light rail for a period of 25 years.

The groups interested in participating in the franchise tender are required to submit their bid by the end of the year.

The winning group will be announced during 2023. The concessionaire's work will begin in 2024. The "scenic" light rail will be operated with innovative and advanced technology, which will allow for the first time in Israel travel in urban and interurban sections without the need to change means of transportation.

The light rail will serve the residents of the north and will create a fast and accessible transportation continuum in the Haifa metropolitan area and the center of the country.

The Ministry of Transport hopes that the railway line will strengthen the localities along the route and in the area, make the employment centers accessible and expand the educational opportunities.
