British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been fined for illegal celebrations at his official residence during the corona lockdown in London.

This was confirmed by a government spokeswoman on Tuesday, according to the British news agency PA, after the London police imposed more than 50 fines on those involved.

Also affected by the fines is Johnson's Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak.

The "Partygate" affair had put Prime Minister Johnson under heavy pressure.

He also had to defend himself against calls for his resignation from within his Conservative Party, as he is said to have tolerated regular parties at his official residence and is said to have attended some.

Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Johnson has been back in the saddle.

Johnson also traveled to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv over the weekend to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Metropolitan Police are investigating twelve events from 2020 and 2021. At that time, there were strict contact restrictions in the wake of the pandemic.

Questionnaires had been sent to more than 100 government workers and employees, including Johnson and his wife, by the police.

The investigation is still ongoing, further fines could follow.

Efforts are being made to advance the ongoing investigation as quickly as possible, Scotland Yard said on Tuesday.

In most cases, it is said to be a fine of 50 pounds (60 euros).

In reaction to the fines being imposed, the leader of the opposition in the British House of Commons, Keir Starmer, has again called for the resignation of Boris Johnson and Finance Minister Sunak.

“Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak broke the law and repeatedly lied to the British people.

You must both resign," Labor leader Starmer wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon and London Mayor Sadiq Khan have also called on the Prime Minister to resign.
