The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of a Czech diplomat from Russian territory, and declaring him persona non grata, in response to a similar move by Prague.

Russia Today quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: “The ambassador of the Czech Republic to Russia, Vitislav Pivunka, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry and handed a protest note in response to the provocative decision taken by the Czech side last March, declaring the adviser to the envoy of the Russian embassy in Prague persona non grata.”

The statement added, "The ambassador was handed a memorandum of reply from the ministry, considering that a senior diplomat at the Czech embassy in Moscow is persona non grata and must leave Russian territory before the 16th of this April."
