State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin confirmed today that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be held accountable if the arrested Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, whose association with Russia is alleged by Kyiv, is subjected to any harm.
Russia Today reported that Volodin, in a statement on his account on Telegram, criticized Zelensky for restricting his opponent, saying, "These are political freedoms in Ukraine, and this happened in light of the silence of the United States and the European Union."
Volodin added, "Medvedchuk, who heads the political council of the opposition Platform for Life party, is known as the initiator of the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the parliamentary framework and called for Ukraine's independence and the building of an independent, neutral state, unlike Zelensky, who dances to the United States."
"For Zelensky, Medvedchuk is the number one competitor, and everyone understands that," Volodin said. "If something happens to Viktor Medvedchuk, Zelensky is required to answer."
