Young people are an important resource to continuously promote the development of I&T. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks has always been committed to cultivating I&T talents to provide a variety of hardware supporting resources to help young local and overseas young people who are interested in I&T to develop their talents.

In order to build a more complete innovation and technology ecosystem, the Science and Technology Park will continue to launch the "Technology Leaders of Tomorrow Programme 2022" (TLT Program) this year, providing young people with R&D job matching in partner companies in the park, and technology park companies. Internships, innovation and technology training, etc.

What's different is that this year's plan has added the "Hong Kong InnoAcademy Society" (Hong Kong InnoAcademy Society) and the InnoCell free accommodation plan. The former brings together outstanding graduates of the plan to continue exchanges and exert the new power of innovation and technology.

The latter provides non-local students with free accommodation in InnoCell for a period of 3 months, allowing them to experience the unique culture of "Work. Live. Play. Learn." in Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem, promoting talent exchange and advancing towards the innovation and technology dream.

Two graduates of the "Tomorrow Innovation and Technology Leadership Training Program 2021" graduates, Jenzen and Mia, both pointed out that the program provides diversified support, which is very helpful to enhance their competitiveness. The experience has also become a "strengthening needle" for them to persist in their pursuit of the innovation and technology dream.

Returning overseas, giving up opportunities for promotion, seeing new opportunities for innovation and technology in Hong Kong, TLT comprehensive training of start-up skills

Jenzen, who graduated from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, had worked for a year and a half in a large foreign company and had the opportunity to be promoted to a senior engineer.

However, at that time, he was very interested in different fields of innovation and technology. He believed that if he stayed in a large company to study a single technical level, he would miss the opportunity to explore his interests. Therefore, he resolutely gave up promotion and chose to return to Hong Kong to join the TLT program. "I noticed that the program provides innovation. And leadership training, internship opportunities, executive apprenticeships, guidance and exchanges, etc., both soft and hard skills can be trained, so comprehensive. The science park is a suitable place for me to find more opportunities and explore my interests.” You Zhun Senior engineers become interns, which may not match the career plan expected by ordinary people.

However, Jenzen pointed out that the Science and Technology Park is the heart of Hong Kong's I&T development, where start-ups gather, and more and more policies have been promoting local I&T development in recent years. It can create more opportunities and possibilities. "In the Science and Technology Park, we can witness many policy-driven infrastructure development, such as advanced manufacturing centers, which are undergoing re-industrialization. Moreover, the mainland market is also quite large, and I believe many people will introduce it to us. innovative technology.”

Jenzen has been interested in entrepreneurship since he was a child. He joined the start-up Precision Robotics as a mechanical engineer through the TLT program to understand its operation mode and work culture.

During this period, in addition to scientific research work, Jenzen has to take on several roles, such as participating in strategy formulation, project planning, learning to properly allocate resources, manpower and time, controlling costs, etc., and then communicating and coordinating with various stakeholders to implement corporate plans and promote products. Conception; during the plan, professors from Chicago who have many years of start-up experience are invited to participate in the training and share their experience to train the students’ conception, practice and presentation skills. Investors are also invited to comment directly on the students’ ideas. Jenzen admits that he has benefited from it. Many: "As engineers, we may focus on the innovation of ideas, but we may not pay attention to whether the solution meets the needs of the public. Our usual presentations focus more on complex signs and images, which are not clear enough. But for start-ups In general, is the proposed solution (the market) necessary? Can it respond to the needs of the general public? Can it be succinctly expressed when reporting? All these will affect the attractiveness of investment.” He admitted that the training allowed him to reflect on his own Inadequacies, I have learned to balance innovation, feasibility and market demand in conception, properly manage time in the process, avoid delaying progress and increase costs, and express ideas concisely and attract investors in the later stage of the plan. It is very helpful for future entrepreneurship and encourages him to continue to pursue his entrepreneurial dream.

Jenzen pointed out that the science and technology park has many I&T resources and activities, and it also brings together a large number of industry professionals. The TLT program not only provides job opportunities for him to train various skills, but also facilitates the opportunity to expand his network.

The program brings not only skills and work experience, but Jenzen also points out that he can enjoy the advantages brought by the innovation and technology ecosystem of the Science and Technology Park. Through the TLT program, I have also broadened my network of people, and I have come to realize that if I face difficulties in I&T in the future, I can share with them, communicate and make progress together, which is very valuable for my future career planning. "Jenzen said.

Entrepreneurs in the Greater Bay Area join the plan, exchange "practical" experience with industry experts, and move towards the dream of innovation and technology

Mia, who has been passionate about the innovation and technology industry since childhood, started a business in the Greater Bay Area after graduation, hoping to develop intelligent robots to facilitate the construction industry, but failed.

This experience has not damaged Mia's love for construction technology. After completing the Master of Science and Technology Leadership and Entrepreneurship program at HKUST, she joined the TLT program. She pointed out that Hong Kong's innovation and technology have many opportunities in terms of policy support, industrial development, and talent training. "Hong Kong has many It is a world-renowned university, which is unmatched by other cities in terms of talent density, and exchanges with more talents will be more conducive to the rapid growth of oneself. In recent years, Hong Kong has also adopted many new policies that attach importance to innovation and technology, so that outstanding talents have more opportunities to grow. A lot of room to play.”

After joining the TLT for business matching, Mia pointed out that the program provides a wide list of companies, and participants can submit applications to suitable companies according to their abilities, interests and hobbies.

In the end, she was hired as a researcher by Infotronic Technology, which mainly develops the Internet of Buildings, to learn the software and hardware development of Internet of Things technology.

There are many experts in the industry who have worked for 20 to 30 years in the company, and each exchange is a "practical" training.

"I know a lot about the construction industry in mainland China, but not much about Hong Kong, but by communicating with experts in the field of property management, I can not only understand the development of the construction industry in Hong Kong, but also recognize the needs of front-line users in the property management industry. I feel that they have concentrated their years of work experience and passed it on to us." For Mia, who had failed in her business, she could only learn related theories from online materials and textbooks before, but it was too "rigid" to absorb, but the TLT plan The work experience brought is exactly a field of training. Experienced industry experts lead the next step of learning, and directly dismantle the difficulties and challenges in the work, in order to integrate theory and experience, and enrich themselves.

Mia believes that compared with large companies with mature systems, the advantage of start-ups is that they are flexible and can realize more possibilities.

She learned the thinking, communication and business skills of start-ups from it, so that the scientific research plan can be more effectively promoted to the market. "I don't want the scientific research results to stay in the laboratory forever. It should serve the society and give full play to its own value. We need to Consider how to integrate high-end technology into life and develop products that better meet the needs of users.” Mia described the TLT program as the starting point for her innovation and technology development in Hong Kong, and will continue to develop into a position that supports the digital transformation of the construction industry in the future.

Mia pointed out that the TLT program will regularly follow up on the work of the trainees, providing opportunities for trainees to communicate with the company, expressing opinions on the work situation and career planning, which will help consolidate what they have learned.

Gathering young innovation and technology power to promote local innovation and technology development

In addition to participating in the TLT program, the two have also joined the Hong Kong InnoAcademy Society as members of the organizing committee, designing and organizing various training, exchange and recreational activities for members.

In addition, members of the Academy of Innovation and Technology Talent Hub can exclusively enjoy career development, training and exchange opportunities in innovation and technology in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area; the organizing committee brings together technical professionals from different backgrounds, such as financial technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology Etc., Jenzen and Mia both hope that the Organizing Committee can become a bridge between the Science and Technology Park and I&T talents. Through the members of the Organizing Committee sharing the experience and gain of joining the Science and Technology Park, more local and overseas talents can be attracted to join. Together, we will promote the development of innovation and technology in the local area and the Greater Bay Area, and inject more innovative ideas.

"Let more people know that Hong Kong not only has leading industries such as finance and real estate, but also the emerging innovation and technology industries are also developing rapidly. Talents are needed to join us. We can achieve different goals together."

Many TLT program graduates have chosen to join the Hong Kong InnoAcademy Society as members of the Organizing Committee to continue promoting the development of local innovation and technology.

In addition to different supports such as business matching, I&T training, and network expansion, this year's TLT plan has added InnoCell, an innovation room that integrates smart living and collaboration spaces, and provides free 3-month accommodation services to non-local students, which can meet the needs of scientific research. It can also promote cooperation and exchanges between innovation and technology talents.

Enterprises in the park also offer highly flexible salaries, which can range from $25,000 to $45,000 or more depending on the requirements and academic qualifications, which is very attractive!
