At the end of June, the tranquil municipality of Krün will once again be the scene of the G7 summit.

Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger prepares the citizens for the multi-day state of emergency.

Krün - The countdown is on.

From June 26th to 28th, the heads of state and government of seven leading industrial nations will once again come to Schloss Elmau (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district) in Krün, Upper Bavaria.

Blocked roads, no trains, controls: For the region, the G7 summit meeting in 2022 means above all a state of emergency.

The security measures will hit the district of Klais particularly hard.

Here is the protocol line.

In concrete terms, this means that if you want to go to Schloss Elmau, you have to go through here.

G7 in Elmau: Citizens from Krün are reluctant to look back on the 2015 summit

"I have to tell you, the decision was made in Berlin," with these words Krün's mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU) addressed his citizens on Tuesday evening, April 12, in the Kursaal.

Some of them don't look back too fondly on the last summit in 2015 in Elmau.

A citizen reports that sometimes he didn't get through, sometimes he was taken home by the police.

It must be ensured that "one can move in one's own place".

Another says his family had two sleepless nights because the helicopter was circling right over the houses.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Police want to keep restrictions as small as possible

According to Schwarzenberger, there is a "bit of confusion" about the school children.

"Are they coming home?" a mother wants to know.

It is not yet clear for all schools whether face-to-face classes will take place on the summit days.

Positive Balance: For some road construction projects, G7 brings acceleration.

There is also half a million euros for the water supply.

Werner Sika from the G7 police planning staff promises that everything will be done to keep the restrictions small and to protect nature.

True to the motto "after as before".

As at the last summit meetings, there will be demos again, the official announces.

However, the world has changed.

It's more about cyber security.

You have to react to Corona and the Ukraine war in the same way.

G7 in Krün: Mayor appeals - "More important than ever that G7 countries sit together"

The fact that the G7 is taking place twice at the same place is "unique" - at least in Germany, emphasized Schwarzenberger.

"Nobody expected that.

Nobody applied, not the community, not the building authority, not the police.

But we have to make the best of it.” The mayor also referred to the war in Ukraine.

His appeal: “It is more important than ever that the G7 countries sit together.

I hope that the summit will also bring solutions.”

Some called the 2015 meeting the “most peaceful summit of all time”, and there were practically no riots.

Schwarzenberger wants that again - and is also confident.

In view of the war, it doesn't fit "that chaos and violence are spread when people sit down and look: how can we solve the problem".
