Mallorca drama: German father drowns – in front of his son

A German drowned on the popular holiday island of Mallorca.
His eleven-year-old son had to watch, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Palma de Mallorca – A German drowned in Mallorca* in front of his eleven-year-old son.
The 54-year-old tourist was apparently swept away by a strong current while swimming in Cala Romántica in Manacor in the east of the Spanish holiday island on Tuesday afternoon (April 12), the regional
newspaper Diario de Mallorca
reported , citing the authorities.
Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
The Majorcan police confirmed on request, according to dpa, that the fatality was a German vacationer.
No further information was initially available about the person who died.
An investigation has been launched, it said.

The accident reportedly happened around 3:30 p.m.
At least five eyewitnesses tried to save the man, the
Diario de Mallorca
reported .
One of them almost drowned himself.
Paramedics treated him on the beach.
Another man suffered minor injuries trying to rescue him.
A psychologist took care of the eleven-year-old.
In the meantime, attempts are being made to find a relative of the child on the island or in Germany.
Local police have launched an investigation into how the incident happened.
The weather is said to have been bad, the conditions for swimming not ideal, reported the Majorcan newspaper.
Just three weeks ago, a German died off the coast of Mallorca.
The tourist from Bottrop in North Rhine-Westphalia descended a staircase on a cliff in Cala Serena in the south-east of the island on March 22 despite the warning of a storm and high waves.
In a cave at the foot of the stairs, the 43-year-old was caught by a wave and thrown against the rocks.
Because of the storm, police divers were only able to recover the body floating in the sea after several hours.
