Paris: the new Bus Palladium will be "more chic"

Bar-restaurant, concert hall... and five-star hotel. This is what the future Bus Palladium will look like. The new owner of the sa

After the spectacular closure, there are major works in prospect for the Bus Palladium: a “revival” announced “more chic” by the owner.

A few days ago, the mayor (Horizons) of the 9th, Delphine Bürkli, received the historic owner of the premises, flanked by his financial director.

And to answer the many questions, she wants to organize a public meeting in mid-May to put fans and residents in the loop.

Many questions, concerns and rumors hovered over the future of the mythical little concert hall, nightclub, jazz club and restaurant, opened fifty-seven years ago, in 1965. This nugget of Parisian cultural heritage , with its faded facade and red letters, has seen the gratin of musicians, from Julien Clerc to Alain Bashung, passing by Johnny Hallyday, Yarol Poupaud, CharlElie Couture, Serge Gainsbourg, Alain Bashung, Indochine…

What is planned in the new project?

Will there be a roof top, to the chagrin of the neighbours?

An elevation?

How long will the construction last?

Will the small rock room keep its soul?

“The owner came to see me, specifies Delphine Bürkli.

And detailed his project to me.

A reputable architect has already been appointed.

It is the KO studio which, among other things, created the Yves-Saint-Laurent museum in Marrakech.

Opening planned for the first quarter of 2024

The general works contractor who will be responsible for both the demolition and the reconstruction has not yet been chosen.

Three companies are in the running.

Clients are expected to meet with the final contractor in early May.

The elected official will then have to “put the turbo”… And immediately start the work because the building permit, issued a long time ago, is only valid until June 7.

The move is planned for the end of the month, with cleaning and depollution.

"It would be more of lead removal than asbestos removal", specifies the town hall.

The demolition should take place this summer, in July-August, and the earthworks in September.

The opening of the new Bus Palladium 2.0 is scheduled, if no delay disrupts the work, in just over two years, in the first quarter of 2024.

No more crazy parties until the end of the night

The owner wants to recreate a concert hall in the basement and a bar-restaurant overlooking the street, a 90-seat restaurant on the ground floor and a five-star hotel with 35 rooms, named Monsieur Bus Palladium, all with independent entrances.

On the other hand, no roof top.

The mayor of the 9th is delighted: “This will limit the risk of nuisance for residents.

The owner wants “that the concert hall host fewer dates but more quality”.

Translate: we stop the some 150 annual concerts of sometimes obscure rock groups... And we favor the headliners, even if, he insists, "the atmosphere will remain rock", but "less turned towards the night".

At 2 a.m., everything will be closed!

It remains to be seen whether the Bus Palladium will keep its soul.

On closing night, musician CharlElie Couture, who spent crazy evenings on the Bus Palladium stage, expressed doubts: "It's a haunt of Paris that fades away, a place full of charm and I'm afraid it doesn't become a tasteless place.
