Getting started for peace, getting started for a good cause – who would say no?

The Bellevue di Monaco social cooperative is organizing the charity run “Giro di Monaco” on Sunday, May 15th at 10 a.m. in the middle of the old town ring.

The goal of the project: collect donations to support refugees from war zones.

And: send a signal for a peaceful Europe and a peaceful world.

The registrations are running, the organizers are expecting thousands of people from Munich.

And more and more celebrities want to support the campaign

The banners for the campaign are already emblazoned on the green building of the Bellevue di Monaco on Müllerstraße: the posters in blue and yellow, the colors of the 1972 Olympic Games, announce the 5.4-kilometer “Run for Peace”.

The route runs along the Altstadtring, which is specially closed to traffic.

Walk for Peace

Organizer Till Hofmann, director of the residential and cultural center Bellevue di Monaco, says: "This is supposed to be a Run for Peace, a peace run - a visible sign from Munich for a peaceful world and for the fact that we are in solidarity with Ukraine."

The organizers can already look forward to prominent support: in addition to football legend Paul Breitner and musician Flo Weber from Sportfreunde Stiller, footballer Alphonso Davies, cabaret artist Martina Schwarzmann and the satirist duo Stermann & Grissemann have announced that they will be taking part on May 15th to be at the start.

TSV 1860 Munich also takes part with its running group "Laufen im Löwenrudel".

All for a good cause: All participants can donate money when registering.

“Anyone can give as much as they want.

If you don't have any money, you can just run along," says Hofmann.

The donations go to refugees from war zones

The proceeds benefit the Bellevue di Monaco, especially the work with refugees.

Another part of the donations goes to the partner organization Ocalenie in Poland, which takes care of Ukrainian refugees on site.

Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has assumed patronage of the project.

The goal of the run is "to show our solidarity and to stand up for peace," he says.

"Munich has always shown that helpfulness and cosmopolitanism are central values for our city." He therefore hopes that as many Munich residents as possible will send a strong signal for a peaceful Europe and run with them.

Since the whole thing is a charity run, there is no timekeeping and no start numbers.

This also means that everyone can take part, from fast runners to walkers.

The starting shot is on May 15 at 10 a.m

All participants will receive free running shirts, which can be picked up in advance from the Bellevue di Monaco café at Müllerstraße 6 - you must bring the printed confirmation of registration for the run with you.

Let's start on Blumenstrasse, between Müllerstrasse and Fraunhoferstrasse.

The starting line-up is at 9:30 a.m., the starting gun for the runners is at 10 a.m.

Afterwards: The street festival of Bellevue di Monaco and Glockenbach workshop

The section of Corneliusstrasse in front of the Bellevue di Monaco borders on the finish area – this is where the traditional street festival of the Glockenbachwerkstatt community center and the Bellevue di Monaco will finally take place again in the afternoon after a two-year Corona break: with a beer garden, stands, various cultural activities and live music.

The ambitious donation goal of the run is 125,000 euros, the current barometer is 45,211 euros.

So: Participate, register, start running!
