marked by the traditional high mass in Saint Peter's Square, Pope Francis has not deviated from the line he has set for himself since the start of the invasion of Ukraine by its Russian neighbour: unambiguously denounce the
“sacrilegious” invasion,
condemn barbarism, but also spare the aggressor whom he never points out by name:
“Let us stop showing muscles while people suffer” ,
he declared in his blessing urbi et orbi.
To qualify the situation, the pope willingly uses the image of the first homicide in the Bible, calling
the Russian aggression
“cainism” .
Yesterday again:
"We demonstrate that within us there is still the spirit of Cain that looks at Abel not as a brother but as a rival and thinks of how to eliminate him."
This subtle strategy has a drawback, it produces an optical effect: doesn't the Vatican send the aggressor and the attacked back to back?
