A fire broke out at a residential unit on Hill Road in the Western District this afternoon (17th), and at least 8 people were injured, including a mother and son, of which the mother was unconscious.
The unit where the fire started is located on the 8th floor of Yechang Building, where a mother and son lived. Before the incident, the son was smoking in the room. It was suspected that soot burned the mattress. Seeing that, the mother and son tried to put out the fire without success, so they called the police for help.
The firefighters raised the ladder to spray water and put out the fire after about 2 and a half hours.
Some residents said that the fire alarm bell did not ring at the time of the incident.
After preliminary investigation by the fire department, it is believed that the cause of the fire is not suspicious.

The incident happened at 5:47 p.m. when a unit of Yechang Building, No. 4, Hill Road, West District caught fire. Tongues of flame were spit out from the window, and a large amount of smoke was emitted. Many citizens witnessed it and called the police for help.
After receiving the report, the fire department dispatched two smoking cap teams and used two hoses to fight the fire. Some firefighters shot water at the fire unit from the ground, and then raised a ladder to shoot water to put out the fire.
At about 7 p.m., the fire was still not extinguished. The traffic lanes of Des Voeux Road West had to be closed. Tram services were also affected. Some passengers fell asleep while waiting in the car.
The fire was put out at 8:18 p.m.
Four men and four women were injured in the fire. All of them were unwell due to smoke inhalation. One man and three women were sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment, including the mother and son of the unit where the fire started. The 58-year-old son surnamed Du was awake when he was rescued, but his 90-year-old mother, Liang, was awake. Comatose, they are currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
Another woman was taken to an ambulance with her baby and an elderly woman.
The remaining three men and one woman were treated at the scene and did not need to be sent to the hospital.

A large number of residents fled to safe underground locations for a while. The nearby Hong Kong Baptist Church Good Neighbor Gospel Church put chairs on the pavement for residents to rest.
Mr. Ye, a resident on the 11th floor, said that he did not hear the fire alarm bell at the house at the time, so he did not know that the fire was starting until someone called to notify him.
Ms. Yung, who also lives on the 11th floor, also pointed out that she smelled 𤓓 at the time, and her son asked if she was "cooking". She looked out the window and saw that several fire trucks were on the scene, and after receiving a phone call, the fire alarm went off, " (After falling for a while) A lot of smoke."
Resident Mr. Yao lived on the other side of the Yechang Building. He did not hear the fire alarm bell at that time, but he smelled the odor and escaped by himself.
