Update from April 16, 9:14 p.m .:

While the incidence on Saturday was below 1000 for the first time since the end of January, the incidences in the different age groups differ quite significantly.

The figures from the RKI from week 14 show: The age group between 10 and 19 years has the highest incidence: over 1600.

In the age groups from five to 59 years, the incidence was generally still above 1000. Only from the age of 60 does the value drop below the mark.

The RKI divides the age groups into four increments.

According to projections by

ntv

, the incidence in the 80+ group is particularly low: 432.1.

The highest value is in the 15 to 34 age group: 1163.9.

The classification of the age groups differs in the two projections.

The RKI chooses smaller subdivisions.

WHO with new projection of corona death numbers: 15 million deaths by the end of 2021?

Update from April 16, 7:03 p.m .:

According to the WHO, 15 million people should have died of or with the corona virus by the end of 2021.

This is reported by the

New York Times,

which says it spoke to ten people familiar with the data.

The corrected numbers are more than twice as high as previously known, which the countries reported individually during the course of the pandemic.

According to the newspaper, the data is the result of more than a year of analysis by numerous experts worldwide.

WHO publication is currently delayed.

India is said to doubt the data and delay publication.

More than a third of the additional deaths are reported to have been in India.

The country had reported a total of 521,747 deaths in the corona pandemic (as of April 16).

In fact, it should be at least four million.

US researchers identify new omicron symptom - it can be dangerous for small children

Update from April 16, 3 p.m.:

Fortunately, the omicron variant of the corona virus has proven to be milder than the dangerous Delta variant in most cases.

After new symptoms were discovered a few months ago, US researchers have now identified another sign of an omicron infection - which is anything but a joke.

As the scientific journal

Pediatrics

informs, the omicron variant in small children, in addition to the well-known signs, also manifests itself as a so-called "pseudocroup" - a dangerous inflammation of the mucous membranes that can lead to shortness of breath.

Laryngotracheobronchitis of this kind is often accompanied by a barking cough and difficulty breathing.

If such symptoms occur in a child, experts advise one thing above all: keep calm and try to calm the child down.

In any case, a doctor should be consulted immediately after a pseudocroup attack.

Corona in Germany: Experts warn of further illness - 74 cases of hepatitis in children

Update from April 16, 12:00 p.m .:

While the corona pandemic is still spreading around the world, experts are now warning of another, threatening disease.

Because in the United Kingdom, 74 hepatitis infections in children aged up to ten years have been reported since the beginning of April - which could possibly be related to the corona virus.

The insidious liver disease, which occurs in several types and spreads, among other things, through contaminated water, can have serious long-term consequences such as liver cancer.

The World Health Organization (WHO) therefore warns of the increasing number of cases and advises every member country of the United Nations to report new hepatitis diseases immediately and to research them thoroughly.

Corona in Germany: seven-day incidence below 1000 for the first time

First report from April 16, 8:00 a.m.:

Munich – For the first time since the end of January, the nationwide seven-day incidence * is again below 1000. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI *) gave the value on Saturday morning at 876.5.

For comparison, it was 1001.5 the day before, 1141.8 a week ago and 1607.1 a month ago.

Corona in Germany: over 37,000 new infections

The health authorities in Germany reported 37,568 new infections to the RKI within one day.

This comes from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. on Saturday.

A week ago there were 150,675 registered infections.

With the values, however, it must be taken into account that individual states do not report data every weekday, and at weekends, for example, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Saxony do not or not completely.

Fewer reports are also to be expected on public holidays.

This in turn leads to late registrations on the following days.

A comparison of daily values is therefore becoming increasingly difficult.

In addition, experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - due to overworked health authorities and because not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only these count in the statistics.

Corona: 29 deaths in Germany - clinic value falls

According to the new information, 29 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 309 deaths - but unlike this week, that Friday was not a holiday.

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the RKI has counted 23,376,879 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2.

However, the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 6.41 on Thursday (Wednesday: 6.49).

Here, too, there are days with incomplete reports.

The value also includes many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Saturday as 19,802,700.

The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 132,929.
