The Russian Investigative Committee has announced the opening of a criminal case over the destruction of a Soviet-era memorial in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov.
"After the destruction of the monument to Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov in the city of Kharkov by a group of members of the Ukrainian national military units, an investigation case was opened into the crime of insulting the memory of the defenders of the fatherland committed by a group of people by prior agreement," the committee said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel. He pointed out that these criminal acts are directed against the Russian interests in preserving the historical memory of the Soviet Union during the Second World War and its decisive role in the victory over Nazism.
