Penzing – "future makers" live in Penzing: 70 young people from the municipality between the ages of twelve and 17 took the opportunity to take part in the project of the district youth council (KJR) Landsberg.

The recurring prejudice about disinterested youth has thus been clearly refuted.

"Even the pizza that we initially ordered was not nearly enough," reports KJR Managing Director Stefan Ehle with satisfaction.

Of course you have reordered.

The first thing to do at the event was to complain without inhibitions.

When asked “What is not going well for the young people in Penzing and the districts?” there were numerous answers from the young people who had split up into groups.

In addition to the lack of rubbish bins at the quarry pond or the insufficient lighting in many streets in the eyes of the young citizens, the topics of meeting places/leisure opportunities, public transport connections and local supply emerged as the main points of criticism.

"What would I do if I were the mayor of Penzing?" the young people were allowed to ask themselves afterwards.

Here you could also dream big: from your own swimming pool, a large sports area for everyone and the establishment of Starbucks and McDonalds to a shopping mall on the grounds of the air base.

In discussions with the moderators of the district youth council and the local politicians present - Mayor Peter Hammer, third mayor Jeannette Witta, youth officer Matthias Peischer and Alexandra Häckl - "these rather 'utopian projects were then quickly removed from the wish list", reports Ehle.

In order to then discuss the implementation of more realistic ideas, which were finally presented to all participants in a final round.

When it came to public transport and traffic, the young people criticized the inadequate connections to the train station in Kaufering and Landsberg.

The (bicycle) connections between the districts and to Penzing are either insufficient or poorly developed.

Another topic was the upgrading of the quarry lake with changing facilities, a barbecue area and one or the other event.

Again and again, missing meeting places, especially in the districts, were addressed.

At least covered seating would be good, but the young people also have a skate park, basketball court, picnic area and pump track facility in mind.

However, they also objected that better connections to landsberg, for example, could replace a local youth meeting point.

On the topic of local supply, it was noted that small village shops or perhaps just a snack machine would be desirable for the existing food market in Penzing.

Mayor Hammer, the local councilors present and two representatives from Jugendhouse Penzing listened carefully to the young people and also took a position on the wishes and ideas put forward: both in the final round and in numerous discussions with small groups or individual participants.

Hammer was even able to promise the youngsters from Epfenhausen something they wanted: the broken goal nets on the soccer field will be replaced by the end of April.

At the end of the three-hour workshop, those responsible from the district youth council and Hammer thanked the young people.

Both the KJR and the community wanted to "have an open ear for the young people," said Ehle, and they were always available for further discussions.

Hammer also wants to discuss in the municipal council which ideas could perhaps be implemented.

Young people should not be afraid to address problems or ideas directly.
