Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to procrastinate and gain more time by declaring his readiness for dialogue in an effort to gain support from NATO.
Zelensky had said, "Ukraine is ready to retract its request to join NATO and its position on Crimea, but not before Russia stops all hostilities against Kyiv and withdraws all forces."
"The Ukrainian president said the same before the talks that took place in Turkey when our forces were near the capital Kyiv," Volodin was quoted as saying on Telegram, in response to Zelensky's statements. The Ukrainian continued, the Bucha events came, Kyiv abandoned the commitments it had accepted, and now the same scenario is being repeated again.”
Volodin stressed that Zelensky must take some important decisions if he cares for the people of his country, as Ukrainian forces have so far lost 23,367 soldiers and 1,464 others surrendered in Mariupol until yesterday, while 2,500 people are trapped in the city of Azovstal.
"Zelensky must first withdraw his forces from the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, commit to recognizing the independence of Crimea by agreement, abandon the bloc's membership, lift militarization, and abolish Nazism from Ukraine. This is the only way for the Ukrainian president to get out of the crisis in his country," Volodin said.
