A crash involving an electric scooter occurred in Sha Tin.

At about 0:30 in the morning, according to the police of the Ma On Shan Police District, an operation called "Chaoyang" was carried out near the Ma Liushui public pier to crack down on bicycle violations and other matters, and copy the license plates of illegally parked vehicles.

During the operation, a police officer found an electric scooter driving along the sidewalk. The police officer immediately stepped forward and asked to stop and check, but the electric scooter could not be stopped, and the electric scooter first hit the police officer and then overturned.

The policeman who was hit suffered injuries to his hands and feet, and the rider of the electric scooter fell to the ground and was injured.

The two were transported to Prince of Wales Hospital by two ambulances respectively after the incident. Fortunately, they were both sober.

Police are investigating the incident and the rider was arrested on charges of "driving without a license" and "driving an unregistered vehicle".

According to what was seen at the scene, the electric scooter involved was of the "Xiaomi" brand, which can be purchased on the official website in Hong Kong at a price of about HK$3,000. The official website said that the vehicle could reach a speed of 25 kilometers per hour and have a battery life of up to 30 kilometers.

However, the use of electric mobility tools on roads, footpaths and cycle tracks in Hong Kong may violate the Road Traffic Ordinance, Chapter 374 of the Laws of Hong Kong.
