Soaring fuel bills benefit superethanol and LPG

ANALYSIS - While most major brands have opted for electric (rechargeable hybrids or 100% battery-powered), some die-hards congratulate themselves on having bet on alternative fuels, such as superethanol or liquefied petroleum gas ( LPG).


With the soaring prices of petrol and diesel, a boulevard has opened up for manufacturers of cars running on LPG, this mixture of propane and butane, at 0.86 euro cents on average per liter against 1 79 euro for a liter of unleaded 95. Same windfall effect with superethanol, at 0.67 euro per litre, a mixture of unleaded 95 and bioethanol from the fermentation of sugars from sugar beets, cereals and sugar cane.
