Sustainability is also a flying companion

In addition to facing one of the main environmental challenges of the present with ethics and responsibility, strategies around sustainability promise much more inclusive, reliable and safe flights.

Currently, the world's aeronautical industry faces one of the most important environmental challenges in its history, one that must be addressed urgently, responsibly and effectively.

According to the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere from the aeronautical sector are around 2.1% and can reach a total contribution of 3.5%. .

The development of sustainable fuel, as well as the implementation of measures and strategies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, can reach up to 80%, according to the Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Fuels in Mexico AC (ICSA Mex).

Fortunately, sustainability is a key issue on the table for the world's leading airlines as their growth continues to soar.

In context, according to an article in the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, “Over the past 50 years, global air travel demand has increased by about 9% per year and is projected to grow (at a rate of 3 to 7 percent). %) for the next 20 years.

On the other hand, energy efficiency is also part of the business strategy within the airlines, a commitment not only to the environment but also to the quality of its flights and the confidence of its passengers.

In this sense, Andrés Conesa, CEO of Aeroméxico, has ratified the vision of a comprehensive commitment to sustainability, with a view to a better future for all those involved in the industry.

"We are convinced that in order to generate value, not only economic aspects are important, but also environmental and social ones, and we are all part of the change to leave a better world for future generations," says the manager.

The example of Aeroméxico is paradigmatic, since since 2013 the company has undertaken various actions and implementations to make sustainability one more passenger within the quality of its offer, through the renewal of its aircraft fleet, incorporating the first Boeing 787s Dreamliners, which together with the addition of the Boeing 737-MAXs are expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 23%, as well as a decrease of up to 60% in terms of noise pollution refers.

Far from being a conjunctural discourse, "going green" is also an opportunity for innovation, growth and the strengthening of traveler confidence.

The comprehensive strategy of the leading airline in Mexico has also implemented various environmental actions, which are closely related to better service, vision and experience, such as official clean industry certifications, environmental policies, as well as special care in the use of energy both on land and in the air and a more efficient management of water resources (project already launched in the eastern hangar).

To this is added a strategy and commitment to the conservation of species and ecosystems in favor of biodiversity, where Aeroméxico prohibited the transport of hunting trophies as of 2015, strengthening its work in favor of environmental balance.

Facing a future in which global efforts join from the main airlines of each country, Aeroméxico actively participates in the definition of the Carbon Compensation and Reduction Plan for International Aviation (CORSIA) and other schemes and initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, which contribute to achieving the goals of stabilization and reduction of emissions for 2035 and 2050, making sustainability one more passenger that reinforces the trust, quality and human warmth that it has as a leading company in the sector.

It's time to fly with other airs.
