Today, the activities of the Sheikh Saleh Al-Ali Festival in its twenty-fourth session, which include activities and art exhibitions, will last for two days, in the tomb of the Mujahid Sheikh Saleh Al-Ali in the city of Sheikh Badr in Tartous Governorate.
Researcher Shaheen Shaheen explained in a statement to SANA reporter that today’s celebration from the stronghold of the great Mujahid has a high value, as from this place the first bullet was fired in the face of the French colonizer, providing a model of resistance and struggle that refuses to allow any colonizer or occupier to desecrate our land.
Secretary of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party Division in Sheikh Badr, Eng. Rehab Abbas, indicated that the festival has become an annual tradition in commemoration of the evacuation.
The craftsmen participating in the festival expressed their pride in this occasion, which means a lot to them, including the craftswoman Roja Ibrahim, who offers products of silk and thread, including silk shawls, paintings and bedspreads.
Ibrahim indicated that she is participating in the festival to revive a profession that was encouraged by the Mujahid Sheikh, while the craftswoman Nazmiya Ismail considered that this participation for her is a cause for pride, as she participates in crafts made of bamboo, pottery and straw.
The participating plastic artists and sculptors saw that participating in this festival is a duty to commemorate the struggle against the French occupier.
The poets participating in the festival affirmed that the participation is a source of pride, especially in this particular place because it evokes all the sacrifices made by the Mujahid Sheikh and his companions, according to the poet Dr. Osama Hammoud, a member of the Arab Writers Union.
In turn, the poet Marwa Halawa, who comes from Hama Governorate, indicated that her participation in the festival is an affirmation of the cohesion of the sons of the homeland and their follow in the footsteps of the first Mujahideen who achieved evacuation.
The opening ceremony and activities of the first day were attended by Tartous Governor, Lawyer Safwan Abu Saada.
