Column of smoke over Munich: fire brigade in large-scale operation - residents flee from high-rise building

Neighbors were the first to notice the toxic smoke and called the fire department.
She saw the column of smoke over Forstenried from afar and was able to help quickly.

The Munich fire brigade reports:
Shortly after noon, a room fire broke out in a high-rise building on Forst-Kasten-Allee in Munich-Forstenried.
Nobody was injured.
Residents noticed flames shooting out of a ground floor balcony and called 112.

Already on the approach, the emergency services saw a large cloud of smoke.
When they arrived shortly thereafter, some residents had already fled the house into the open.
A respiratory protection team began to extinguish the fire from the balcony.
At the same time, another squad gained access through the apartment door and also began extinguishing the fire.
The flames in the living room were quickly extinguished by the use of the two squads.

Other teams searched the stairwell and the apartments above for injured people and smoke.
Because windows were open, toxic smoke penetrated into some apartments.
All affected areas were evacuated with a high-performance fan.
Injured were not found.
After about two hours, all residents were able to return to their apartments.
The fire apartment is currently uninhabitable.
The amount of property damage is in the lower six-digit range.
The cause of the fire is unclear, the police are investigating.
