He has fulfilled a dream: Jo Weber, owner of the oldie garage between Anzing and Markt Schwaben, is once again polishing the oldest vehicle in the fleet.

Jo Weber (65) loves vintage cars and lets others share his passion.

Visiting his oldie garage, where you can rent the valuable cars.

Anzing

– It looks like a museum.

Jewels of automotive history are parked close together in the buildings of a former farm between Anzing and Markt Schwaben.

Right at the entrance to one hall is a silver Porsche Speedster, built in 1962, a special replica but still an original, commemorating the legendary American actor James Dean.

The oldest car is just opposite a black Mercedes-Benz 170, built in 1939, top speed 108 kilometers per hour.

Poinger Jo Weber (65) collected the cars.

There are currently 44 historic vehicles.

The special feature: Private individuals or companies can book the classic cars and take them on tours.

A museum on wheels, as it were, and at the same time a business model that lives up to tradition, the vintage cars are allowed on the streets.

And how.

Sometimes it goes on a big tour, also in terms of numbers, with several car transport trucks and, for example, 40 vintage cars to a company event in Tuscany.

Weber has fulfilled a childhood dream with his collection.

As a boy he had toy cars.

Today he says that he said to his mother back then: "When I grow up, I'll have it in big at some point." No sooner said than done.

Weber learned to drive at a military training area

Weber grew up on a farm.

"There wasn't much going on." His friends and he practiced driving at a former military training area.

"That was freedom." Back then he learned how to repair and screw.

This is how his passion for motorsport came about.

His first own car was a Mini.

"He won the Monte Carlo Rally back then."

The Poinger is actually a secondary school teacher.

He later went into business and became a management consultant.

In 2004 he founded the Oldie-Garage.

Not only does he fulfill his own dreams, but also those of his customers, such as those of a 75-year-old from Austria on his birthday.

Memories of the first vacation in Italy, the first trip over the Brenner Pass, the first pizza.

Everything bundled in an Opel Rekord P2 Coupé, built in 1962. The family had given their dad/grandfather the birthday trip.

They came to watch the jubilee as he carefully got into the classic car and ran his hand over the steering wheel and the instruments.

Memories are awakened in the VW Beetle convertible

Or the couple who got married in a VW Beetle convertible around 50 years ago.

Now the husband and wife are sitting in one of these cars again and reveling in memories.

There are other beetles too.

Or the white Golf convertible, the guy Sascha Hehn once called Dr.

Brinkmann junior drove to the Black Forest clinic.

Or several Citroën 2 CV, better known to us as "duck".

The vehicles are well-kept, have a special smell and feel very special in the interior.

Soft upholstery, cool leather, wood on the dashboard.

Years ago, a girl from the neighborhood said, looking at the round headlights, that the cars had faces and were smiling.

And the company is very modern.

He has a certificate as a partner in climate protection.

Greenhouse gas emissions are offset by a supported wind energy project in northeastern Brazil.

Jo Weber is convinced that using old vehicles responsibly instead of scrapping them is sustainable.

All cars have a name

Also striking: the cars all have names.

They are based on their countries of origin.

For example, an Italian Fiat 124 Sport Spider from 1978 is called Angelo, Wastl a BMW 730 i (1989), Beppi a BMW 1800 (1971), Diana a French Citroen D Super from 1970, or Bob an American Ford Mustang, built in 1965. Triggers for the naming was when one of the cars Weber buys arrived with the Munich registration number M-AX.

It was clear to Weber's daughter that his name was Max.

All vehicles have a history, which Weber has meticulously summarized for the car documents.

There is the Mercedes that a dentist bought in 1939 and drove his whole life.

Or the convertible Trabant, called Cindy, with a special registration, a one-off that belonged to a Stasi officer in the former GDR.

Weber gets enthusiastic about many of the cars, such as an Opel Rekord C. It became known as the Coke Bottle, i.e. Cola bottle, because of its characteristic hip swing in the rear area, which some fans describe as erotic.

The type was built from 1966 and showed some technical innovations.

At first, Weber found it difficult to rent out his treasures.

“I wanted to call every hour to ask about the car.

Today that is no longer the case.

We have almost no damage.” One of the reasons: Anyone who rents a car usually first takes a supervised test drive, very close to the hall, to get used to it.

The cars have no power steering, no power brakes, no air conditioning.

And the landlord gives valuable tips on how to deal with it, which are actually more of a requirement.

Every vintage car is good for a little double-declutching when shifting gears, it makes switching operations easier, they say, for example.

Or: Please confirm switches and flaps, levers and cranks without using force, i.e. with a lot of feeling.

The interior fittings are very difficult to obtain, if at all, and very expensive.

It is refueled with Super 95 octane and lead substitute

"When refueling, always fill with Super 95 octane and lead substitute." Otherwise there is a risk of engine damage.

And keep an eye on the oil pressure.

First warm up the car carefully – about 20 minutes.

You can practice switching.

Full throttle and fast motorway driving are prohibited.

This may be a tough requirement for some, especially with a floor like a Porsche 930 Turbo, which renters can only get from the age of 35.

But actually it's more about the pleasure of driving slowly on side roads anyway.

In addition, there are also the appropriate tour books for the nearer or farther area in the oldie garage.
