British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has apologized (unreservedly) to MPs after police fined him for violating COVID-19 restrictions in June 2020.
"It never occurred to me then or even later that my participation in a birthday gathering in Downing Street would violate the rules that were in place at the time," Johnson was quoted by AFP as saying during his apology. "I made a mistake and I apologize for it unreservedly." He refused to resign.
It is noteworthy that Johnson is the first British Prime Minister to be punished for breaking the law while in office.
An opinion poll in Britain yesterday showed that most British voters see Johnson as a liar and incompetent.
