An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck 108 kilometers east of Ohonwa province, west of the Kingdom of Tonga today.
"The quake struck at a depth of ten kilometers, and its initial location was determined at 21.4509 degrees south latitude and 173.9149 degrees west longitude," Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey as saying.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.
A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Tonga, northwest of Bangai, in January.
