The Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that the United States and Western countries bear responsibility for the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East as a result of their evasion of solving the Palestinian issue and invoking the current events in Ukraine.

“We proceed from the fact that the long-running Palestinian-Israeli conflict is one of the hotbeds of tension in the Middle East and is based on the absence of a political settlement, and a large part of the responsibility for the current situation lies with the United States and the European Union,” the Russian TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today. who are evading settlement under the pretext of events in Ukraine and from participating in the activities of the International Quartet of Mediators, a mechanism approved by the UN Security Council for this.”

According to the statement, Russia expressed its deep concern about the escalation of violence in the Palestinian territories, especially in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, pointing out that Russian diplomats are making the necessary contacts to stabilize the situation there.

Yesterday, during a telephone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed recent events in occupied Jerusalem and settlement issues in the Middle East in the context of tension in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
