Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, President of Damascus University, revealed that the ceiling of funding for master’s research has been raised from 500 thousand Syrian pounds to one million Syrian pounds, and doctoral research from one million to three million Syrian pounds, with the aim of accelerating the research process for graduate students and overcoming the difficulties they face, which may lead to delays in their research projects.
While presiding over a meeting of the Damascus University Council today, Dr. Al-Jaban stressed the need to pay sufficient attention to internal and external scientific publishing in high-quality scientific journals and to provide all appropriate conditions for researchers from graduate studies to facilitate the completion of their research and provide them with financial support as the main human resource for scientific research at the university.
During its meeting, the council discussed a number of issues related to the new guide for enrollment procedures in postgraduate studies, the formation of governance committees, the procedures for public discussion and defense of theses and theses, and the award of scientific degrees in the university's colleges and higher institutes, in addition to discussing the project of establishing a research center for biological treatments.
The director of the scientific sabbatical at the university, Dr. Ghaith and Rakouz, reviewed the content of the guide, which aims to summarize what was stated in the universities organizing law, the internal regulations and the decisions of the Higher Education Council related to graduate studies, in addition to setting unified bases for controlling the subject of evaluating postgraduate theses.
He indicated that the new guide includes the time stages of postgraduate research, doctoral and master's registration procedures, conditions for obtaining a master's degree, post-registration and pre-discussion procedures for master's and doctoral degrees, evaluation of the master's thesis and doctoral thesis, and procedures for preparing for the public discussion session in the master's and doctoral degrees.
The session also discussed the project of the Biotherapeutics Research Center to be established at Damascus University, where Eng. Hala Dakkak, Head of the Excellence and Creativity Authority, stated that it seeks to achieve a set of goals, such as linking biotechnology research laboratories within a single network that achieves the highest levels of coordination and participation in conducting quality research. The members of the Council discussed a number of issues related to the conduct of the teaching process in some faculties of the university, the problems they face, and the faculties' preparations to receive the second semester of open education programs.
