Damascus-SANA

During the last decade of dramatic production, interest in the badge song for works prepared for display during the Ramadan season increased until it was considered a prominent element in its marketing and promotion, and it was shown many times before the work was shown on screens.

And we see music composers crowding out drama stars as milestones that guarantee the success and promotion of any television work, and they are now winning critical and public appreciation awards locally and in the Arab world, and securing a place for them on the red carpet.

By observing the work of the Ramadan drama scene 2022, we will find that the denominator among its badges is diversity. Some of them presented a cut without a performer, such as the series “Kasr Adham” by composer Tariq Al-Nasser, and others chose choir groups to perform the work song, such as the series “Suspended of Execution” from the words of Bahr Laodisa and musical composition Taher Mamli and Rafi El Fakes in the musical arrangement, with a collective performance by a Syrian choir.

Some of the badges took the form of the independent song, such as “Hayed El Hob,” written by Bahr La Odessa, composed by Radwan Nasri, and performed by Amer Khayat.

Meanwhile, musician Iyad Rimawi chose to draw inspiration from the “Aziza Choir” badge from the era of 1920s music to simulate the story of the work.

After two seasons of changing the badge of the longest series in the history of the Syrian drama, “Bab Al-Hara”, this season returned to the song of the first parts, which was written by Osama Masoud, composed and distributed by musician Saad Al-Husseini, with the voice of Adnan Hallaq and accompaniment of the Syrian choir.

Some of the badges of the comic series carried the character of experimentation, as in the badge placed by Ghaleb Zeidan, words, melodies and distribution of the series “The Three Musketeers”, which came as a mixture of Western musical styles.

Whereas, the badge of the series “Mama Inaya”, written and composed by Ramya with the role, prepared and sung by Ghada Walid Omar, went to a contemporary lyrical style.

The Spotlight badge still holds the record for the longest badge in the history of Syrian drama, as this work by composer and composer Taher Mamli has been going on since 2001 with the voice of soprano Dima Orcho and the participation of artist Assem Sukkar.

And this season, the phenomenon of Syrian drama using the voices of Arab singers continued. Moein Sharif performed the song Sharat Al-Kandoush 2, accompanied by the artist Ayman Reda. It was titled “Kana Mabareh.” The lyrics of the song written by Mahmoud Idris ranged between classical language and colloquial dialect, while the tunes were by Radwan Nasri.

Among the series that retained its badge, Haret Al-Qubba 2, with the voice of Yanal Taher, the words of Samer Ghazal, the composition and arrangement of the music of Saad Al-Husseini.

Regarding the importance of dramatic signs for work, Maestro Adnan Fathallah, Dean of the Higher Institute of Music, believes that composing a drama is not easy for the author, especially if it is only instrumental music devoid of words and requires high musical and dramatic culture, experience and reading of the finest details of the text.

Fathallah finds the role of the music composer no less important than the roles of the director and actor, as the former works to bring out the audio identity as one of the most important factors helping the success of the work and conveying the idea of the scene.

The badge, according to Maestro Fathallah, is supposed to express the events that take place at work, including the instruments used, giving examples of dramatic music that is still engraved in the audience’s memory. “Birds of Thorns” by Samir Kwifati and others.

Fathalla expresses his refusal to use internationally famous musical works as badges for work because it lacks the element of matching between ideas and spirit, especially with the presence of the Higher Institute of Music as an academic institution that annually graduates young, qualified composers who aspire to take their chance locally.

Regarding the spread of dramatic figurative music and its authors compared to other musical compositions, he says: “It is not reasonable for drama to be the only door in the face of the composer’s fame, and the reason for this is capital, as it is pumped into the production of dramatic works, the trump card in the success of musical composition that spreads through it.”

In order to develop the reality of the dramatic musical work as a whole, Fathalla proposes the creation of a music production institution in cooperation with capitals to invest the talents of Syrian creators, composers, musicians and singers, who possess what is worthy of producing competitive Arab and international musical forms so as not to remain trapped in papers due to the high costs of its implementation. It is renewable and new blood must be pumped into it.
