Skin diagnosis, a real asset for optimizing your beauty routine

2022-04-19T16:09:04.273Z

Wrinkles, blemishes, pores, acne… Skin diagnostics scrutinize the skin to take better care of it. Doctors walk us through the process step by step.

What if our beauty routine was not quite adapted to the needs of our skin?

Its appearance is constantly changing according to our lifestyle, our environment, our genetics, our diet, but also all kinds of hormonal changes that can occur during a woman's life.

Online or in-store questionnaires offered by cosmetic brands can give some basic information about our skin type, but today there are much more developed technological tools used by health professionals.

How is a skin diagnosis performed?

This complete analysis must be carried out by a dermatologist or an aesthetic doctor.

The consultation starts with make-up removal and facial cleansing beforehand.

“The first thing we do is look, touch, pinch the skin.

We observe how it retracts, we identify any relief or pigmentary lesions.

It is above all a clinical diagnosis”, explains Doctor Arnaud Lambert, aesthetic doctor and co-founder of the Aesthé center in Paris.

“The interview with the patient is also very important, because there are fluctuating elements that make it possible to trace the history of a disease, to specify the family, surgical or gynecological history.

There is also hygiene and lifestyle to take into account.

This assessment is intended in particular for people who wish to treat their "irregularities" of the complexion (scars, redness, sun spots or melasma, acne) or the signs of skin aging.

It is just as interesting for those who have no particular skin "problem" but who wish to improve its appearance: it thus makes it possible to adapt the beauty products that are used on the face on a daily basis.

High-tech tools to go further

Specialists are also equipped with more advanced technological tools that allow the skin to be analyzed more objectively.

“Skin diagnostic devices take face and profile photos with different lights: polarized, parallel, crossed, or UV in order to measure the different parameters of the skin at the moment T. This scientific analysis reveals the state of the skin and its external and internal modifications not yet visible to the naked eye”, explains Doctor Nadine Pomarède, dermatologist in Paris and Brussels and founder of the aesthetic dermatology centers DermoMedicalCenter.

Hydration rate, level of firmness, number of dilated pores, reactivity of the skin, state of its solar capital, quantity of sebum secreted, appearance of wrinkles… Everything is scrutinized.

“Thanks to this metrology technology, the doctor establishes a treatment plan based on the “weak points” of the skin in order to improve certain parameters.

This analysis also makes it possible to compare the skin after having carried out an act of aesthetic medicine, then to follow its evolution over time and to adapt the recommendation of care according to the seasons”, continues Doctor Pomarède.

These examinations also bring another indication which can surprise: the “real” age of our skin, which can be equal, lower or higher than that which is on our identity card.

“They record the skin information compared to the “standards” in people of the same age and the same skin color as you, by comparing data from millions of people”, adds Doctor Arnaud Lambert.

Results over time

A complete facial analysis with these machines takes about half an hour, including the interview with the doctor.

A report is systematically given to the patient at the end of this consultation.

"This is how we create a personalized care plan in relation to your skin, your desires, your problem and your way of life", concludes Doctor Lambert, who advises to tackle this diagnosis at least twice. per year, in order to observe the results over the long term.
