The Director of the General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Damascus Governorate, Engineer Samer Al-Hashemi, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the current abundance of the spring, which amounts to 18 cubic meters per second, contributed to supplying the vast majority of the areas of Damascus with water around the clock without a rationing program, with the exception of high areas such as the upper avenues in Al-Muhajireen and Nest Al-Warror, Al-Wurood neighborhood and the Dummar project, because it is supplied by pumps whose work is linked to the hours of electricity feeding, pointing out that the spring is currently in the flood season and that this is the reason for the emergence of simple turbidity that does not affect health and that every citizen’s need for sterilized water reaches it despite the rationing program in force in Some areas.

Al-Hashimi explained that the surplus amount of water from the spring goes to feed the countryside surrounding the city, starting from Moadamiya, passing through Daraya and Jdeidet Artouz, reaching Sahnaya, and even the city of Kiswa, which is supplied with water by pumping, as well as the city of Jaramana, in addition to the Harasta and Irbeen regions, which are fed throughout the year from the spring, indicating that the institution adopts the application of A procedure at this time of the year is to inject local wells in the city of Damascus with the surplus water from the spring.

Al-Hashemi indicated that there are a number of water projects (wells) that are being fed with outlets exempt from electrical rationing, as some of them will enter service soon, which will contribute to improving the water reality.

Azzam Doghuz, director of the Al-Fijah Spring facility, pointed out that the spring includes a group of main facilities, including sterilization, gates, and the electrical system, in addition to the hadar, indicating that the absorptive capacity of the spring facilities reaches nine and a half meters cubic meters per second, which is the largest amount that the new and old traction tunnels can carry to the city of Damascus while the process is being done. Discharge of the surplus water to the Barada River, which feeds the basin.

Doghuz pointed out that the restoration operations carried out inside the spring included the mechanical and electrical infrastructure, preparation and sterilization of tunnels, washing facilities, strengthening the four corners, and restoring the lobby of the spring. The internal and external cladding will be completed at a later stage.
