The works of the hydraulic linkage project between Salhab Dam and the Southern Irrigation Canal in the Tar Al-Ula Al-Asharnah network in the western Hama countryside have been launched.
Engineer Hassan Mahfoud, director of irrigation at the Al-Ghab Development Authority, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter the importance of the project in exploiting the available water to irrigate crops, especially during the upcoming summer season, explaining that the water expected to be utilized will irrigate more than 5,000 hectares.
In turn, the Director of Water Resources, Tawfiq Saleh, stated that the water in this project flows easily without the need to pump it to the southern canal to provide all the lands with irrigation water within the associations of Al-Sarmiyah, Salhab, Al-Safa, Nahr Al-Bared, Al-Salakiyah and the nearby associations to irrigate the seasons, whether summer or winter, because most of the water is on the course of the Deir Shamil River It goes to waste as it is a dam to recharge groundwater and not a dam to conserve and store water.
