This Belkin 2-in-1 Stand Finally Made Me Believe in Wireless Charging

2022-04-19T20:20:04.962Z

The only drawback is that it is only compatible with iPhone 12 and 13 and Android phones with wireless charging.

Despite reviewing tech gadgets for nearly a decade, I've somehow never gotten into the habit of using a wireless charger.

They always felt like a solution to a problem I didn't have, and for a long time it worked for me to charge my phone and headphones using good physical cables.

But all that changed when Belkin's Boost Charge Pro 2-in-1 stand (

MX$2,384 or

$99.99) landed on my desk a few months ago.

The Belkin MagSafe-enabled kickstand did an excellent job of not only keeping my iPhone 12 Pro and AirPods Pro charged during the day, but also displaying my phone in a way that makes it easy to stay on top of important notifications while I work and It has finally opened my eyes to how useful this type of device can be for any home office.

A simple and elegant stand

The Belkin Boost Charge (

MX$2,384 or

$99.99) not only streamlines the cable clutter on my desk (and there are still

plenty

of them), but it also looks good doing it.

With its rounded white base and slim silver stand, the Belkin Charger is an unassuming, attractive addition to my home office while taking up minimal desk space.

It's important to note that this mount works with a fairly bulky AC adapter and doesn't include a USB-C cable like many of the other wireless chargers we've tested.

This means you'll always get the fastest charge the cradle can deliver, but you also won't have the flexibility to connect the cradle to a computer. The Belkin 2-in-1 Cradle has two key components: a MagSafe charger on top that connects magnetically to your iPhone 12 or 13 to take advantage of it, and a circular socket at the bottom designed to house AirPods.

I can attach my iPhone 12 Pro to the mount with a simple and satisfying snap, and the magnetic connection continues to hold strong through full work days after months of frequent use.

The mount keeps my phone equally secure (and holds a wireless charge) whether you have it placed vertically or horizontally, making it just as great for catching up on messages as it is for watching YouTube videos. Of course, the big caveat here is that very few phones currently support MagSafe, Apple's proprietary magnetic technology that allows you to easily attach things like chargers and cases to your device.

It's currently limited to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 families (even the newer 2022 iPhone SE isn't supported), so unless you have a modern, premium iPhone, you won't get much use out of this particular mount.

The bottom of the Boost Charge is a traditional wireless charging pad, and while it's designed for AirPods, I've also been able to use it with just about any device that supports wireless charging, including Android phones like my Galaxy S22+.

A white LED light illuminates when whatever you have on the pad is charging, which is a handy little touch.

And while the Belkin Boost Charge kept my gadgets reliably charged, it also had an influence on the types of gadgets I use on a day-to-day basis.

I found myself temporarily ditching my beloved Beats Fit Pro headphones for my older AirPods Pro just because the convenience of being able to charge the latter wirelessly on my desk was too good to pass up.

I eventually went back to my Beats as I prefer the way they feel and sound, but for the first time, I might consider wireless charging when considering my next pair of wireless headphones.

This mount also led me to purchase Apple's iPhone 12 MagSafe Clear Case, which allows me to use the magnetic charger without having to constantly remove the case every time I want to charge it.

So how well does it work?

The Belkin Boost Charge 2-in-1 (

MX$2,384 or

$99.99) works great as a phone stand, but how well does it actually charge your phone?

This gadget offers 15W charging, which is on the faster end for a wireless charger – most of the cheaper models we've tested max out at 7.5W for iPhone.

But even the best wireless chargers are generally not as efficient as a standard charging cable, which I've found to be the case here as well.

The Belkin booth took about 50 minutes to charge my iPhone 12 Pro from 85% to 95% during mixed app usage and with Spotify playing in the background.

By comparison, the 25W Samsung wall charger I use with my Lightning to USB-C cable can do that in a fraction of the time.

It's also worth noting that my iPhone tends to get quite hot when using the Belkin mount for long periods of time, something I don't have to worry about while using a cable.

Boost Charge speeds are fine for my daily use;

I usually charge my phone overnight via the Lightning cable, then use the stand during the day once the battery starts to drop.

Considering my nearly two-year-old iPhone 12 Pro tends to run out of battery faster than usual these days, I'm happy to have an easy means of keeping it from dying while working.

But if I need a quick charge before a night out, I'm always going to go corded.

In conclusion

The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2-in-1 MagSafe Mount (

MX$2,384 or

$99.99) is the kind of little home office upgrade that makes my life better.

It charges my iPhone and AirPods well enough, but I find it especially useful as an attractive vertical stand that allows me to look at my phone throughout the day without constantly reaching for it (and endlessly distracting myself in the process).

If you're in the specific niche of someone who wants to charge their iPhone 12/13 and AirPods (or Android device with wireless charging) at the same time, and don't mind paying for a good-looking phone stand, this particular model from Boost Charge offers a lot for its cost.

And no matter which model you choose, adding a wireless charger to your desk is a relatively small investment that can make a big difference to your workspace.
