An 18-year-old boy died Tuesday night after losing control of his car and falling into a canal in the city of Sunrise, a suburb of Miami, Florida, according to local police.
A 17-year-old teenager who was walking with his mother in the area witnessed the accident, according to local media WSVN, and jumped into the water to rescue the driver.
Emergency crews pulled him out of the water but he died at a local hospital, the Miami Herald reported.

The incident occurred at 11 p.m. ET at Northwest 12th Street and Silver Palm Boulevard, according to NBC Miami.
Sunrise police confirmed that a car fell into the water when the driver made a wrong turn and lost control.
He was the only occupant of the vehicle, and also died in hospital after being rescued, police said.
The identities of the victims have not been released by authorities.
