The tomato is a summer fruit while the carrot is an autumn vegetable… It's not always easy to know the seasonality of fruits and vegetables.
To address this issue and raise consumer awareness of the seasonality of fruits and vegetables, Casino has just launched a seasonality barometer.

An initiative that will be deployed this week in hypermarkets, next week in supermarkets and in the coming months in convenience stores but also on the brand's e-commerce site.
This barometer consists of a half-sphere of colors ranging from green to red, which will be affixed in the store in the form of a display, indicating whether or not the fruit or vegetable offered on the shelves respects its seasonality.
The products marked in green are seasonal products, in yellow those which are at the beginning or end of the season and in red those which are out of season.
For the moment, 28 fruits and vegetables are classified there.
For example, for the last two weeks of April 14 products are classified in yellow such as peppers and strawberries, 9 in green like asparagus or kiwis, 5 are in red, in particular grapes and leeks.
This tool will be updated regularly.
This initiative is part of the “The real taste of the seasons” program launched at the start of the year by Casino.
By way of comparison, brands such as Monoprix or Auchan already offer a selection category of items on their website which lists “seasonal fruits and vegetables”.
