Defense Minister Bnei Gantz spoke today (Wednesday) with Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov, informing him that he has approved the purchase of protective equipment of helmets and vests, which will be transferred to the Ukrainian rescue forces and civilian organizations.
"This is as part of Israel's extensive humanitarian efforts, including the establishment of a field hospital, the absorption of immigrants and refugees, the provision of food and humanitarian and medical assistance, and more," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
So far, Israel has sent Ukraine mostly humanitarian aid, and sending military equipment is a policy change.
Among other things, the two discussed the world's efforts and Israel's efforts led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to bring an end to the war.
Beyond that, the Defense Minister wanted to emphasize Israel's standing alongside the citizens of Ukraine and the need to continue to assist the country, and to act to end the war.
