Brewery veteran Georg "Schorsch" Maier was accompanied into retirement with a Tragl "Rentner-Hoibe".

Grünbach – Georg “Schorsch” Maier said goodbye to his retirement with a historic Biertragl from the Schlossbrauerei Grünbach as a gift.

The wooden box was filled with sausage, ham, bread and other specialties.

And of course there was beer.

His colleagues from the Schlossbrauerei designed their own labels for the bottles with a special inscription: "Retiree-Hoibe" is written on the neck of the bottle.

Below is the number "38" - after so many years, Maier is now leaving the brewery.

"With the Schorsch we are losing a unique specimen", regretted authorized signatory and brewery boss Karl Gratzl.

Brewmaster Sebastian Lochner agreed.

"Schorsch was and is an absolute pillar of the brewery".

Both hope that the 63-year-old will continue to contribute his wealth of knowledge as a part-time employee.

Maier has already signaled his willingness to do so.

Since March 21, 1984, Maier has been employed in the wheat beer factory as a beer boiler.

Among other things, he was responsible for ensuring that the ingredients for the wheat beer were added to the brew in the right amount.

But the father of three also accompanied the path from the raw materials to the beer in the bottle with great craftsmanship.

Farewell to Georg "Schorsch" Maier: He will not be bored in retirement

"Schorsch knows the brewery inside out, every corner and almost every screw," explained Gratzl.

This knowledge, coupled with manual skills, a talent for improvisation and a high level of commitment, meant that technical problems could often be solved quickly.

"He was always available and, if there was an emergency, even came on Sundays to help," praised Lochner.

The brewery was an important part of Maier's life.

He lives near the brewery and thus also has his private center of life in the area.

Maier was active in the Bockhorn and Grünbach fire brigades for a long time.

The retiree is also no stranger to the Stopselclub and the Almenrausch & Edelweiß Riedersheim shooting club.

He has already won many a king's title in the shooters.

The retiree shouldn't get bored now: A large garden, many trees that want to be cut, and last but not least his one and a half year old grandson are now waiting for Schorsch.
