The streets are calm and the sun quietly floods the streets of Sablé-sur-Sarthe, its half-timbered houses and its castle overlooking the river.

On this Easter Sunday, the bells chime for a long time to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

But, a week earlier, it was a real crucifixion that was discussed at the ballot boxes of this former stronghold of the right.

A leading trio quite similar to the national results, but which may surprise in this town of 12,000 souls, led for more than eighteen years by François Fillon.

In 2017, the former Prime Minister had also gathered 45.08% of the votes in the first round, far ahead of Emmanuel Macron (16.33%) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (13.96%).
