, more and more credit institutions are demanding negative interest rates.
Many banks charge so-called custody fees as soon as the customer has assets of more than 50,000 euros in his account.
At some institutes, however, low and medium earners are already affected: Here, the custody fee is sometimes even collected from an amount of 5000 euros on the account.

reports, more and more banks are now getting serious.
Last year, for example, the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf terminated customers who did not want to agree to the negative interest rates.
Now other institutes are following suit.
For example, Postbank terminated the business relationship with several customers who had more than EUR 50,000 in their accounts and refused to consent to the custody fee.
According to a spokesman for Deutsche Bank, amicable solutions could be found with most of the customers.
There were also layoffs at Sparkasse Dortmund*.

Before termination occurs, amicable solutions should be found for the customers.
However, there is one ray of hope in general: many banks have announced that they will forego negative interest rates again in future as soon as the European Central Bank no longer charges penalty interest rates from banks.
But as long as this does not happen, the problem could instead increase.
Oliver Mihm, head of the banking consulting firm Investors Marketing, could imagine that low and medium earners would also be affected by the threat of termination as soon as 85 to 90 percent of customers would accept the new terms and conditions with the custody fee.
The approval rate is currently around 70 percent.
