The General Authority for the Management and Development of Al-Ghab announced that it has taken the necessary measures to protect the forests and wheat crop from fires in the Al-Ghab area.
The Director General of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest, Eng. Aufa Wassouf, said in a statement to SANA that the authority has taken the necessary measures to protect forests and forest sites within its field of work from fires this year, as 15 fire trucks and tanks were equipped and maintained, and forest roads were built with a length of 4 kilometers from the planned 5.5 kilometers plan. The authority also started constructing and restoring forest roads and fire lines with a length of 525 km, and is working on equipping forest protection centers and providing them with fire hoses, individual team supplies and a wireless communication network.
Wassouf pointed to the implementation of guidance activities such as seminars and meetings with the local community in the forest villages in order to raise awareness of the importance of forests and their protection, indicating that about 100 fire workers have been appointed on annual contracts, and a number of workers will be appointed on seasonal contracts, and the free number 188 will be allocated to report any fire around the clock.
Regarding the preparations for the harvest season of the wheat crop, Wassouf pointed out that coordination was coordinated with the Hama Governorate to distribute tankers and firefighting vehicles in the agricultural lands in a way that secures the cultivated area within the authority’s field of work to reach the maximum speed of the site of the fire if it occurs, and coordination has been made with the competent authorities from the Water Corporation and Municipalities to combine all efforts In the fire season.
