The vaccination campaign in the district has come to a standstill: only 30 to 50 vaccinations per day are carried out in the center in Peißenberg.

Nevertheless, staff and location will remain the same.

District – There is always something to do, but it is currently very quiet in the vaccination center of the Weilheim-Schongau district in Peißenberg.

"If we have 50 vaccinations in one day, we can make a red cross on the calendar," says the head of the vaccination center, Christian Achmüller, in an interview with the local newspaper.

On average, there are 30 vaccinations per day that are given in Peißenberg.

In view of the fact that the capacities in the vaccination center would allow a multiple of this, not a satisfactory value.

The group of those who were vaccinated was “mixed” according to Achmüller.

First and second vaccinations, boosters and the fourth refresher for everyone over 70 and at risk patients - everything is available.

The vaccines offered in Peißenberg have also been cleaned up.

The quite controversial vaccine from Astrazeneca has not been ordered since the middle of last year.

And the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is no longer available in Peißenberg.

"That didn't make any sense anymore.

The effectiveness of this vaccine is significantly lower than the other preparations, since also for Johnson &

The vaccines from Biontech, Moderna and Novavax are still on offer.

According to Achmüller, this protein vaccine, which has only been available for a few weeks, has not been able to fulfill the hopes associated with it.

Before its introduction, it was thought that people who had reasons not to be vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine would turn to Novavax.

But that hardly happened.

In the meantime, the vaccination center is busy giving advice to everyone who is affected by the facility-related obligation to vaccinate.

This has been in effect throughout the healthcare sector since mid-March.

Employers had to report unvaccinated employees to the health department.

In the first step, they were asked to make an appointment for a consultation.

The doctors at the vaccination center offer these consultations.

So far with manageable success, as Achmüller reports.

There have been around 20 consultation appointments so far, only one nurse was vaccinated afterwards.

However, the staff in the vaccination center will not be reduced: "If the predicted next corona wave really comes back in autumn, we have the staff and the structures to be able to vaccinate many people immediately," says Achmüller.

The improved Biontech vaccine is expected to be approved in September, which is intended to protect much more effectively against the currently rampant omicron variant of the virus.

Until then, the vaccination center will continue to switch between times when only people with an appointment are vaccinated and free vaccinations, for which you can simply come to the vaccination center without registering.

Closed on Mondays, vaccinations are still offered on Saturdays.

Occasionally, refugees from Ukraine have now also been given protection against severe corona courses in the vaccination center.

"They often come in groups and usually have at least one person with them who can speak English and translate for the others," says Achmüller.

So far, however, there can be no talk of a rush by the Ukrainians.

In addition to the vaccination center, numerous refugees from Ukraine are now housed in the former Peißenberg hospital.

"Because we share the main entrance with the refugees, our one-way street solution in the vaccination center no longer works well," the head of the facility continues.

In view of the manageable number of visitors, however, this is currently bearable.

Achmüller assured that there had not yet been any talk of moving the vaccination center to have more space for refugees in the building.

The vaccination center was opened at this point at the end of 2020.
