, SANA- The competitions of the governorate’s chess championship for the men’s category concluded today in the hall of the tourist hotel, which was set up by the Technical Committee of the game under the supervision of the Executive Committee of the Sports Federation branch over a period of nine days, with the participation of 64 players who represented the clubs of Al-Arabi, Shahba, Al-Tha’la, Al-Kafr Al-Raha, Al-Omal, Salkhad and Al-Shabiba.
The first place in the championship was won by player Tim Al-Shoufi, followed by Karim Henedy, then Aghid Al-Aqbani, fourthly, Sayel Al-Kafiri, fifth, Nasser Saeed, and sixth, Tariq Abu Assaf.
The head of the Chess Technical Committee in Sweida, Eng. Rifaat Khader, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the tournament was held in the Swiss League style of nine rounds according to the Fisher system and witnessed strong competitions and the participation of 4 internationally ranked players in classic chess with the emergence of promising young players who achieved good results, indicating that the tournament constituted an opportunity for friction. And the selection of the provincial team in preparation for the Republic Championship next month.
