Good news for beer garden lovers: After 13 years of standstill, the beer garden at Indersdorf Monastery is to reopen.

The new landlord is anything but unknown in the Dachau district.

Indersdorf - After 13 years, the beer garden at the Indersdorf monastery, which belongs to the site of the closed brewery, is finally to open its doors again.

That is the goal of Ewald Zechner, whom many district citizens know as the landlord at the Dachau folk festival and as the landlord of the Pellheim village inn Liegsalz.

"The opening of the monastery beer garden in Indersdorf could only fail because of the staff, because it is still difficult to find catering staff," Zechner explained in an interview with the Dachauer Nachrichten.

Beer garden at the Indersdorf monastery should open again

According to Zechner, after consultation with the owner of the site, Werner Schilcher from Ainhofen, it should become a self-service beer garden.

The monastery restaurant itself, which is still waiting for extensive renovation, plays no role in Zechner's concept.

The preparation of the dishes and the bar is provided in the arched extension towards the beer garden.

Monastery beer garden in Indersdorf will probably open in June

Zechner is thinking of a changing range of dishes, ranging from Bavarian snacks to chicken and pork knuckle.

Whether Augustiner beer will also be served, like this year at the Dachau folk festival, Zechner cannot yet say.

"There are still important talks going on over the next week," he assured.

The beer garden itself only needs to be filled up before tables and benches can be set up.

The toilet problem is to be solved by means of containers.

Not only Zechner, but also many of the former beer garden visitors are enthusiastic about the dreamlike ambience with old trees at the foot of the venerable monastery ensemble.

The beer garden allows up to 300 guests to be comfortable.

Dachau festival host Ewald Zechner wants to start operations in June – personnel search is ongoing

However, Zechner can only do this if he succeeds in recruiting dynamic and flexible employees with whom he can breathe new life into the church and monastery sector.

We are looking for management, kitchen management, cooks, serving staff, dishwashers/cleaners, cashiers, temporary workers and bartenders.

The first beer garden season in Indersdorf should start in June and last until September.

Zechner even offers interested employees a year-round permanent position.

He accepts applications by e-mail at Kontakt@gasthaus-liegsalz.de.

Monastery brewery has an eventful history behind me

The Indersdorf monastery brewery, which was run by the Fuchsbüchler family for many years, has an eventful history behind it.

Most recently, the Fuchsbüchler daughter Gaby and her husband Josef Schuster ran the business, which was forcibly auctioned off in January 2006.

At the auction at the Munich district court on Infanteriestraße, not only the brewery but also the beer garden, the public festival area and all other properties of the former monastery brewery went under the hammer.

The company K+K Wohnbau of the former SPD councilor Sepp Schuster was awarded the contract at a price of 2.7 million euros.

In doing so, Schuster had just about outbid the offer from the EU “Eigenheimprofi”-GmbH from Herbert Ullmann from Dachau, who started the race with 2.625 million euros.

In July 2020 there was another change of ownership.

The Ainhofen real estate specialist Werner Schilcher bought the brewery and beer garden.

However, the monastery economy is still asleep.

The majority of Indersdorfers should now be relieved when at least the beer garden is put back into operation in the summer months.
