Because Beijing has postponed its motor show, BMW is presenting its new 7 Series online - and is surprising in terms of shape and format.

European customers can also expect another innovation.

Munich – Big appearance on the digital stage: since the motor show in Beijing was postponed due to the pandemic, BMW* unveiled the next 7 Series on the Internet.

The BMW flagship is scheduled to go on sale before the end of 2022 - as a combustion engine, electric version and plug-in hybrid.

Huge kidney: BMW takes design to the extreme with the new 7 Series

The design takes the current BMW style to the extreme.

It puts the kidneys even more in the foreground with an LED frame and introduces a new look for the lights with two LED slots each.

The dimensions are increasing: the 7-series is around five centimeters wider and higher, and the long version is stretched by another 13 centimeters to almost 5.40 meters.

The previously available short version will be deleted.

Inside, there's a fully animated iX-style cockpit and a rear cinema screen that pops out of the ceiling at the touch of a button.

BMW 7 Series: No pure petrol engine for Europe

At least for Europeans, the engine portfolio should be unfamiliar.

According to BMW, it no longer offers pure petrol engines for its flagship in our latitudes.

BMW has also eliminated the V12 engine for the 7 Series worldwide.

For Europe there will only be one diesel engine with six cylinders, three liters displacement and 220 kW/300 hp as well as two plug-in hybrids, each with an electric range of more than 100 kilometers and of course the all-electric i7.

As the i7 xDrive60, with one motor per axle, it delivers 400 kW/544 hp and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with up to 745 Nm. It reaches a top speed of 240 km/h.

The energy for this is supplied by a battery with a net capacity of around 102 kWh, which enables a standard range of 625 kilometers.

Charged with up to 200 kW of direct current, the seven is in the best case ten minutes for 110 kilometers at the socket.

Autonomous driving with the new BMW 7 Series

BMW has not yet given exact prices, but indicated that the conventional 7 Series will hardly be available for less than 100,000 euros.

Customers will probably have to pay around 140,000 euros for the i7.

According to BMW, the 7 Series is the first model from Munich to be equipped for Level 3 autonomous driving.

In the near future, this could relieve drivers to such an extent that they can legally take their eyes off the road in selected situations and, for example, use their smartphones.
