The Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) will start tomorrow (22nd). Chief Executive Carrie Lam visited Clementi Secondary School, one of the examination venues, today to learn about the school's arrangements to protect the health and safety of candidates and examination staff in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Carrie Lam stressed that the government, together with the HKEAA and the academic community, will do its best to run the HKDSE this year, and ensure the health and safety of candidates and test staff in hundreds of school examination rooms and the special examination room at the Penny's Bay Community Isolation Facility.

She wished all the candidates to take the exam smoothly, to play their due level, so as to make good plans for further studies and employment.

Accompanied by Deputy Director of the Education Bureau Cai Ruolin and Chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Yung Wing-kei, Carrie Lam learned about the entire process of candidates entering the examination venue and the various anti-epidemic measures implemented by the school, including checking the health declaration form, measuring their body temperature and verify their identity, etc.

Carrie Lam said that the annual diploma examination is very important for the further studies and employment of tens of thousands of Form 6 students and self-study students. Therefore, even in the face of the fluctuations and challenges of the new crown epidemic, the government aims to start the examination smoothly. The HKEAA and the academic community communicated and cooperated closely and responded decisively.

She pointed out that with the full support of the central government and the concerted efforts of all sectors of society, the fifth wave of the epidemic has been gradually controlled, and has continued to decline since reaching its peak in early March, creating necessary conditions for the HKDSE to start tomorrow.

The number of applicants for the HKDSE this year is about 50,000, and the timetable is compressed to three weeks. The written test of each subject will be held from tomorrow to May 14, and the release date will remain on July 20.

In order to reduce the risk of infection in the examination room, candidates and invigilators are required to perform a rapid antigen test before the examination every day, and only after a negative result can enter the examination room.

Candidates who are listed as close contacts, and candidates who are diagnosed and whose health conditions permit, can choose to take the test here. At the same time, hotlines and free point-to-point anti-epidemic taxis or minibuses are arranged to assist candidates to go to the relevant isolation facilities.
