The Fire Services Department confirmed that the fire service installations in the building did not hold a valid annual inspection certificate, and some fire protection facilities were damaged. Prosecution may be instituted after the investigation is completed.

The corridor on the same floor was severely blackened, and there were sundries believed to belong to the unit that caught fire, including charred wooden doors and ironing boards.
As for the mother and son in the unit that caught fire, they are still hospitalized. As of about 10 am today (20th), the condition of the 58-year-old son Du has become serious, and the 90-year-old mother Liang is still in critical condition.

The "Hong Kong 01" reporter inspected the firefighting equipment on the floor of the building and found that the fire extinguisher on the 8th floor was not used. One of the fire extinguishers listed the inspection date as October 6, 2020, and the next inspection date was October 2021. On the 5th, and the fire extinguisher listed above, all fire extinguishers must be pressure tested within 5 years.
In addition, the fire hose reel on the fire floor also lists the inspection date as October 2020.
The above equipment in question does not meet the statutory requirement to be inspected by a registered fire service installation contractor at least once every 12 months.
In reply to the enquiry, the Fire Services Department confirmed that, according to the records of the Fire Services Department, the building on the site was equipped with a fire hydrant/hose reel system, a fire alarm system and a portable fire extinguisher.
After the fire broke out, the prescribed fire-fighting equipment team came to the scene to investigate and follow up.
