After Easter, 1065 war refugees were already reported in the district, the influx remains unchanged.

The cash payment for refugees, on the other hand, has changed: instead of the district, the municipalities are paying Ukrainians the benefits for April.

District – The influx of refugees from Ukraine continues unabated.

According to the district office, a total of 1065 refugees from the war zone were officially registered on Tuesday.

Most of them are still housed in private accommodation in the district.

So far, 686 hosts have offered to take in refugees.

310 of these accommodations are already occupied, so 376 are still available if more refugees come to the district.

There are also accommodation options in six inns and seven holiday apartments, as the district office further announced when asked by the local newspaper.

Refugees from Ukraine: Emergency accommodation almost full

The emergency accommodation, which was set up at short notice in the former Peißenberg hospital, is almost full.

A total of 64 places are available here, 50 of which are already occupied.

When creating further accommodation options, the district was ordered to take a forced break.

The reason is the "change of legal sphere", which the Prime Ministers' Conference decided in principle, but which has not yet entered into force.

In essence, it is about the Ukraine refugees being classified under Hartz IV and no longer being treated under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.

That all sounds very complicated from a legal point of view, and in essence it is.

Put simply, this means that Ukrainians, in contrast to other refugees, should receive benefits under Hartz IV and may be placed in employment by the Employment Agency.

For the district, this means that it is unclear exactly how the accommodation for the Ukrainians will be financed in the future.

This in turn means that the district has procured numerous new and also larger accommodations - including in the building of the former vocational school - but these projects had to be postponed until the end of the legislative process on May 20th.

The main burden will therefore continue to lie with the private hosts at least until then.

According to the district office, some of them offer the accommodation free of charge, with most of them rental contracts with rent or just because of the additional costs have been concluded – also with a view to the inflation rate and the skyrocketing energy costs.

Nevertheless, the press spokesman for the district office, Hans Rehbehn, makes no secret of it: "Not every lid fits every pot." In the past few weeks, numerous moves have been organized because Ukrainian guests and Upper Bavarian hosts don't go together.

Payment of cash to refugees is newly regulated

However, another problem has now been largely resolved.

At the end of March there were many complaints about the "Pay Day" at the district office.

At the end of the month, asylum seekers are paid the benefits for the coming month in cash.

Because the Ukrainians have also been subject to the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act so far, they also stood in line for hours at the district office.

The authority then promised to get the individual communities on board by the end of April in order to be able to process the payments decentrally via the town halls.

Completion has now been reported.

With the exception of the towns of Weilheim and Wielenbach, all municipalities have agreed to pay out the money to the refugees.

Weilheim and Wielenbach are therefore left out because the district office itself maintains a payment office and the benefits are to be paid out there.

Queuing for cash should soon come to an end anyway: As press spokesman Rehbehn explained and mentioned at the beginning, the Ukrainians are to be treated as Hartz IV recipients from June 1 due to the “change of legal sphere” and could then have their benefits on her – so far available – have account transferred.
