Weilheim – It won't be long before the magic theater in Schmittst opens its doors.

You can see a stage program that has never existed in the district town before.

Very inconspicuous from the outside, the magic theater Schmittst is located next to the Weiheim city library.

But don't let the outward appearance fool you.

A glass door takes you inside - and it's almost like stepping into another world.

A bar and lounge stretches out in front of you.

Dark blue dominates the premises, along with golden and beige tones.

You can see that Yvonne Hoffmann and Stefan Schmitt are proud of what they have created there in about a year.

However, the smiles of the two grow particularly large when they go down into the basement.

A golden staircase leads to the heart of Schmittst: the magic theater stage.

Bathed in dark blue light, the room offers space for 65 guests.

It will take a little while before the first visitors can be enchanted.

On May 7th, the Schmittst celebrates its premiere.

That certainly makes you nervous, doesn't it?

"And whether!

We're already looking forward to it," grins Schmitt.

The choreography for the evening is already in place.

Schmitt will present his magic skills, while his wife completes the program with aerial artistry.

Schmitt also happily shows what can be found behind the scenes.

The stage lights are controlled from the technical room.

The proprietor fiddles with the settings, goes back to the performance room.

"And you can see that you can't see anything," he laughs.

Until the premiere, however, the handles are secure.

And finally, Schmitt is not a technician, but a magician.

Albeit a “late-comer”, as he says himself.

It all started with a voucher for a magic seminar.

"I went there with two friends and because I quickly get enthusiastic about something, I was immediately hooked." The Fürstenfeldbruck resident was particularly taken with the mental magic.

He later showed these at the “Magic Dinner” series of events, among other things.

While his heart is in magic, sport plays an important role in his wife's life.

More specifically, the dancing.

Hoffmann was already on stage with a flamenco number at the age of five.

Years later, she took first place in one of the largest German tournaments together with her dance partner.

In the meantime she has also discovered aerial acrobatics.

In the aerial hoop, the Fürstenfeldbruck artist shows artistry on a hoop that is hanging in the air.

Hoffmann explains that while Schmittst is "focused on magic", it should also show "the advantages of both of us".

Her husband adds that "artistic and magic merge" and the two will be on stage as "equal artists".

Hoffmann says that interaction with the audience is also important in magic.

"In a pleasant way.

We don't embarrass anyone," she emphasizes.

The "being close to the people", as Schmitt calls it, means that there will be no major illusions à la David Copperfield on the Weilheim stage.

"Although we do have a fog machine," laughs Schmitt, who at the same time assures that no women are sawed in half with him.

But of course there will be more than disappearing cloths and card tricks.

If you are curious, you can find more information online on the magic theater's website.
