Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed this afternoon during a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, the bilateral relations and issues of common interest.
During the call, the two sides discussed holding the meetings of the joint higher economic committee between the two countries, and expressed appreciation for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the face of the criminal Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, stressing the support of Syria and Iran.
Minister Miqdad stressed that relations between Syria and Iran are always moving forward towards further development, pointing to the need to activate the Syrian-Iranian economic cooperation to overcome the effects of the illegal coercive Western economic measures imposed on the peoples of the two countries.
Minister Miqdad described the relations between Tehran and Damascus as historical, strategic and important, not only for the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, but also to ensure security and stability in the region. He expressed Syria's support for the Iranian position on the nuclear file, and blamed the United States for not signing the agreement so far.
In turn, Abdullahian stressed the depth of the strategic relations between Syria and Iran, expressing his aspiration to work with the Syrian side in order to enhance cooperation between the two countries in all fields and deepen the relationship between the Syrian and Iranian peoples.
Abdullahian pointed out the importance of striving to achieve real economic and trade partnership, once again, by his country's standing by Syria and its people, and its willingness to provide the necessary assistance to overcome the negative effects of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries.
Minister Abdullahian also gave a presentation on the latest developments related to the negotiations in Vienna on the Iranian nuclear file and the obstacles that the United States places in the way of returning to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
