Saint-Germain-en-Laye will have its share of the Paris 2024 Games. Labeled Terre de Jeux three years ago, the city of Yvelines and its Camp des Loges facilities were indeed chosen by the British delegation to become their training and preparation center.
The news will be formalized next Thursday on the occasion of the signing of an agreement linking the "Team GB" to the municipality.
“We are obviously very satisfied.
It is the result of lobbying work that we carried out on our own," reacts Mayor Arnaud Péricard (Horizons), emphasizing that Saint Germain-en-Laye has notably been able to count on "a large Anglo-Saxon community and even elected officials of British origin who have done the job well".
The delegation convinced by the facilities... and the "next door"
If the city has been able to seduce across the Channel, it is thanks, according to its mayor, "to the quality of the facilities at the Camp des Loges which are above average", but also "to all the surroundings such as the setting, the forest, the golf course or the swimming pool”.
And Arnaud Péricard adds with a smile: “we also have some good pubs”.
Several hundred athletes are therefore expected between the spring, for the internships, and the summer of 2024. At the Tokyo Games in 2020, the British delegation, 4th in the final medal table, had no less than 386 athletes.
A number to which must be added the various guides and coaches.
It is estimated that 80% of the disciplines should be able to be practiced in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Reims (Marne) will host the remaining 20%.
