Students enrolled in the first year of medicine will have to retake their English test. They found out a few minutes before

Anaïs (*), 19, collapsed.

Eight months that she works tirelessly, "fifteen hours a day, without social life, without going out, without weekends".

The end of the tunnel was not very far.

We will still have to wait.

And remobilize his forces.

This Thursday morning, the approximately 700 students enrolled in the first year of medicine at the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines learned that the English test on which they had worked the day before was ... canceled.

It was a multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ) to be completed on a digital tablet.

The administration apparently discovered that a number of students had used a function that offers instant translation, on the tablets provided by the university.

“We play our future in a few hours”

“This morning (Thursday morning), when all the tests were over, we were kept in the amphitheater to explain to us that we were going to have to retake the English MCQ at noon.

Finally, they told us that the test would be reorganized in two weeks, explains Anaïs, the young student.

Apparently, since some had used it, the university was ready to authorize the use of this translation function, but since it was only accessible on certain tablets, there was a problem of equality in the face of the review.

English therefore, but also anatomy, social and human sciences, physiology and the so-called “minor” ordeal, with law, science or “re-education/rehabilitation”.

Like all her comrades from the UFR Simone Veil, Anaïs has just completed two days of exams.

In the same way as those of December, the partials of April condition the classification of the students and their passage in second year.

Since the reform of medical studies, repetition is no longer authorized.

“We are playing our future in a few hours in a profession for which studies are so difficult.

These are months of work.

We were all going on vacation and we learn the same day that we have to start a test again because some have allowed themselves to cheat!

“, gets carried away the young woman.

Already in January, 300 students suspected of cheating

"Disgusted", Anaïs protests against the possibility that some cheating students may "consider stealing places, without any merit, from those who work honestly".

“Our English vocabulary, we are supposed to know it.

And what's more, they want to become a doctor!

The knowledge they won't have, how will it work for them to practice their profession later?

“, chokes the student.

The pill is all the harder to swallow since last January, already, 300 second-year students were suspected of having organized collective cheating during remote partials.

At the time, they would have organized themselves into small groups to distribute the MCQ questions and exchange answers over the Internet.

At the end of the test, the average of the promotion peaked at 17/20, whereas it does not exceed … 10 usually.

And the errors noted on the tests were strangely centered on the same questions.

“My daughter has wanted to study medicine since she was 14.

The first year is a tunnel.

How to react when things like this happen?, enrages the student's mother.

How to accept that the university is unable to organize exams under correct conditions?

It's a total lack of respect for their work.

Contacted several times this Thursday, the dean of the faculty of medicine did not respond to our requests.
